1. Different materials
Quartz crystal is a mineral composed of silica, with the chemical formula SiO2. Quartz glass is a special industrial technical glass with a single component of silica.
2. Different hardness properties
Pure quartz crystals are colorless and transparent, and show various colors due to the presence of trace pigment ions or finely dispersed inclusions, or the presence of color centers, which reduces the transparency. With vitreous luster, the fracture is oily luster. Hardness 7, no cleavage, conchoidal fracture. Specific gravity 2.65. Piezoelectric.
The hardness of this kind of glass can reach Mohs 7, high temperature resistance, low expansion coefficient, thermal shock resistance, chemical stability and good electrical insulation performance, and can transmit ultraviolet and infrared rays. Using crystal, silica and silicide as raw materials, it is formed by high temperature melting or chemical vapor deposition. Melting methods include electrofusion, gas smelting, etc.
